Detoxification - The Lymphatic System

The lymphatic system is quite simply the drainage system for our body, and it holds the key to detoxification and weight loss. The lymphatic system removes and detoxifies waste from the body in a fluid knows as lymph, via a whole series of vessels in your body.

If you want to lose weight or detox, you must understand how it plays such a big role. Our bodies are approximately 60% water, our brains are 70%, are lungs are almost 90% and our blood plasma is about 80% water, which helps us digest food, transport waste and control body temperature. If you are not drinking enough water, the lymphatic system cannot detoxify your body properly and you will certainly not lose weight! The average person should be consuming 2-2.5 litres per day. We have twice as many lymph vessels than blood vessels, so if you want to detox and lose weight you have to keep these functioning and clear of waste.

The lymphatic system carries the cells which fight off infection, hence when there is an infection in your body, generally one of your lymph glands or nodes will swell up. Another way to help it function properly is to exercise, which will help towards your goal of detoxification and weight loss also. Exercise will improve circulation and will stimulate lymphatic drainage. Massages can also help detoxify the body of toxins through speeding of the lymph.
